Late June is the absolute worst time in the Game of Thrones calendar. We've had the delicious joy of 1. Westeros, and now — all too abruptly — the whole thing has been put on hold again. We've got to wait a whole damn year before we find out what happens next.
SEE ALSO: This 'Game of Thrones' theory about Tyrion just got some compelling new evidence. Hopefully George R. Martin will publish The Winds of Winter sometime this year and the story will overtake the show, but until that happens all we've got are our desperate predictions to fill the aching void of time until next May. We now know that there are only two seasons of Game of Thrones left (and possibly only 1. Season 7. 1. The Starks will fully reunite. ![]() ![]() What We Can Expect from Game of Thrones Season 7; Email. SIGN UP FOR NEWSLETTER. In the “Game of Thrones: Season 6 Game Revealed. There will be more where this came from. Image: hbo. It won't happen straight away, but at some point next season we believe all the remaining Starks will be together again. Jon and Sansa have already been reunited, Bran is now back at the Wall, and Arya has already returned to Westeros — all the pieces are coming together, in other words. We know that Game of Thrones loves symmetry, so it makes sense that a story which started with the scattering of a family will be bookended by the remaining pieces of that family drawing back together. But Sansa will go rogue. Having said all that, we don't think it will be an entirely pleasant reunion. There were strong hints in the Season 6 finale that a rift is forming between Jon and Sansa. We think Sansa's increased levels of badassery will combine with her frustration over Jon getting all the credit for defeating Ramsay in the Battle of the Bastards (despite the fact he'd definitely have lost if it wasn't for her) and lead to her doing something reckless. We don't think she'd intentionally harm her brother, but it's possible she'll do something behind his back again — possibly in conjunction with Littlefinger — that will have unhappy consequences. It's less likely, but the other possibility is that she might go completely rogue. We know from George R. Martin's 1. 99. 3 letter to his agent detailing the initial outline for A Song of Ice and Fire that he'd originally intended for Sansa to betray the Starks. Obviously his story has ended up changing massively since then, but who knows.. Jon will find out about his real dad. Now that Bran knows about Jon's true parentage, we can't see why he wouldn't spill the beans when he eventually makes it back to Winterfell. ![]() ![]() Then again it did take Bran a full four seasons to make it beyond the Wall in the first place, so who knows how long it'll be before he finally gets back to his hometown. Whether the revelation comes in Season 7 or the beginning of Season 8, though, it seems inevitable that Jon is going to find out about his Targaryen heritage at some point (this will likely be the catalyst for an eventual alliance with his aunt Daenerys, after all). Daenerys will take care of Euron Greyjoy. Seeing as showrunners D. B. Weiss and David Benioff have already cut plenty of Martin's book characters from the TV show (including Victarion Greyjoy), we can't see why they'd bother including Euron unless he has a reasonably big part to play in the upcoming season. At the moment, Euron's main beef is with Theon and Yara (who ran off with a bunch of his ships) and his main mission is to make Daenerys his bride. The last time we saw him, he was making the slightly ambitious request of his Ironborn friends to help him build . But this will delay her arrival at King's Landing. We think it's likely that Season 7 will focus on Daenerys' invasion of Westeros, while Season 8 will be all about the final battle between the White Walkers and mankind (you know, that whole . Cleganebowl WILL happen. Maybe. Please. Please. Image: hbo/mashable composite. Sandor Clegane has been brought back into the show for a reason, dammit. Obviously his character represents the struggle between redemption and the desire for revenge, etc. And if they decide to ally with Daenerys in her quest for the Iron Throne? Well, frankly we can't think of a better candidate to go toe- to- toe with the Mountain than his very own flesh and blood.(OK, so this prediction could also just be wishful thinking, but we're allowed to dream.)7. Cersei will die at the hands of Jamie. Cersei may be on the Iron Throne for now, but it's going to be one hell of a short- lived reign. Not only has she succeeded in making enemies of practically everyone in the Seven Kingdoms, but now she's even gone and alienated her own brother. This one's been the subject of plenty of theories and speculation, and we think it's got legs — we don't know what the exact circumstances will be, but we reckon Cersei will ultimately die at the hands of Jamie (thereby fulfilling the prophecy given to her by Maggy the Frog when she was a child). The Night's King will invade. 6, game of thrones season 7, predictions. Mashable is the. Game of Thrones Season 7 Spoilers ![]() This is what the whole thing's been building up to, isn't it? It probably won't happen until towards the end of Season 7, but it won't be long now before the Night's King makes his move. Showrunner David Benioff basically said as much when asked about the Horn of Joramun — a legendary device believed to hold the power to topple The Wall — in a recent interview for Deadline Hollywood. We'll leave it at that for now. And the Wall will come tumbling down. Wouldn't this make the perfect final shot for the end of Season 7? The White Walkers have got to get over that thing somehow, and we think bringing it down — whether it's via the Horn of Joramun or some other means — will be the only way they can overcome its magical barrier (which has been penning them North of Westeros for who knows how many years now). The other possibility here, of course — which has also been widely theorised — is that Bran will inadvertently bring the Wall down (or at least disturb the magical barrier keeping out the Walkers) now that the Night's King has marked him. Either way, winter is well and truly coming. It's only a matter of time now. Have something to add to this story? Share it in the comments. What We Can Expect from Game of Thrones Season 7. This post contains frank discussion of Game of Thrones Season 6, Episode 1. The Winds of Winter.” If you are not caught up with the season finale, now is the time to leave. There was a myth hovering around Game of Thrones this season that the HBO show had completely gone off the George R. Martin books. But thanks to the writers circling back on some older stories, like the election in the Iron Islands, the Siege of Riverrun, the return of the Hound, and more, book readers were actually able to predict a lot of Season 6 in advance. But with Season 7 looming, we’re well and truly off the book- reader map. Unless Martin releases his next book, The Winds of Winter, between now and next year (and he might! However, there are still a few lingering clues that could help readers know what to expect next year. Careful, here be dragons and some very mild spoilers. The Lannister Twins. In the “Game of Thrones: Season 6 Game Revealed: Episodes 5. HBOGo, Nikolaj Coster- Waldau described this mysterious look between Cersei and Jaime as “shock.” According to him, while processing the wreckage of King’s Landing and the news of his son’s death, Jaime “does not understand what the game plan is. No one will accept . I’m not sure he understands or knows who that person is now. And that’s scary.” There are some prevalent theories that, like he had to with the Mad King Aerys, Jaime will be forced to put his sister down. There’s even a book prophecy that supports this theory. Will Jaime pull the trigger as soon as Season 7? It’s hard to say. But if he doesn’t go after her, Daenerys and company sure will. But while Cersei’s reign may not be as long as Qyburn promises, it could be some bloody good fun. With Ramsay gone and Euron failing to make too big of an impression as the next Big Bad, will Cersei slide into that role? We still have some time to waste before it’s all- out war with the Night’s King. As show- runner David Benioff put it, “. To get what she wants. The real question now is what does she want?” Presumably? To survive the coming storm that is Daenerys Targaryen. Sansa and Littlefinger. While we’re on the subject of ambiguous looks, how about this beauty shared between Sansa and her erstwhile mentor? Despite the fact that Jon gave her the master suite in Winterfell and self- deprecatingly said he wasn’t a Stark, Sansa seemed to warmly back him. But Littlefinger has been pouring poison in her ear and spent this triumphant Stark moment smirking in the corner. What does Sansa’s look here mean for the future? In a released chapter from the upcoming book, Sansa is still very much Littlefinger’s pawn as she learns courtly manners at the Vale. I can’t ever see the show version of Sansa regressing in that direction, but is there an alliance in the works? According to Sophie Turner, the look between them is intentionally oblique. But while Sansa will likely never fully trust Littlefinger again, should some kind of sibling rivalry drive a wedge between her and Jon, I wouldn’t put my money on Sansa to come out the winner. Jon is the one with the big, heavy destiny, Sansa. This isn’t a fight you want to pick. Jon Snow a. k. a. Jon Starkgaryen a. As the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen (yep!), he’s grappling with the burden of expectations from two noble Westerosi lineages. Not only that, but if Jon winds up being Azor Ahai reborn, he’s already probably one step ahead of Stannis. Jon rejected Melisandre’s seductive offer of power and assistance in the wars to come. He will probably continue to rally the North and turning everyone’s attention towards the White Walkers, but Jon might need to take a breather if/when he finally reconnects with Bran. We may know Jon’s destiny, but Lyanna’s kid has yet to find that out for himself. It may prove quite an existential blow. Bran and Meera (and Benjen)Speaking of Bran, this might be where we actually have the most concrete hint about what to expect next year. Game of Thrones fan site Watchers on the Wall reports that Season 7 is looking to cast two Northern youths for “a high- stakes scene with leading cast members.” They’re looking for a 1. That could be anything, but many suspect that this will be another flashback and we’ll see Bran fill in more gaps in Westerosi history. But there’s also the curious matter of Uncle Benjen’s abrupt info dump right before he left Bran and Meera on the doorstep of the Wall. Ancient spells were carved into its foundation. Strong magic to protect men from what lies beyond. While it stands, the dead cannot pass. I cannot pass.” This is a plot point many book- savvy viewers were quick to point out earlier this season. The spells that protected the Three- Eyed Raven’s cave are the same that protect the Wall. We already know that the Night’s King’s mark on Bran broke the enchantments on the cave. Will it do the same for the Wall? Will Season 7 open with Bran bringing the whole thing toppling down or at least allowing the White Walkers passage behind him? To be honest, those feel like dramatic end of Season 7 moves, but there’s only so long that Bran and Meera can kick around north of the Wall next year. For better or worse, they may be meeting Lord Commander Edd Tollett soon. Daenerys and Company. If you were confused how Varys got from Dorne to Daenerys’s ship so quickly, you might want to note the peachy Martell and green Tyrell sails flapping in the breeze alongside the black Targaryen and yellow Greyjoy ones. At this point, Daenerys has either already swung by Dorne to pick up Varys, the Tyrells, and Martell fleets, or everyone met her somewhere in the middle of the crossing. Suffice it to say, they seem to be aimed straight for the capital. Earlier in the episode, Daario said, “The Lannisters will have nowhere to run when you hit King’s Landing,” so that may be exactly where she’s headed. I’m very curious how the show intends to make this look like anything resembling a fair fight. Daenerys has so many allies and three dragons. What chance do the crippled and singed Lannisters have? The Hand of the Queen. While Missandei and Grey Worm and Varys and (ugh) the Sand Snakes and Olenna and the Dothraki will all presumably have a role to play in the Dragon Queen’s Cabinet, it’s important to recognize her most trusted adviser: Tyrion Lannister, hand of the Queen. In King’s Landing, the broach of the hand is Lannister gold. It’s Targaryen silver and we expect Tyrion to dispense plenty of wisdom while wearing it. The last time Peter Dinklage was at the true height of his comedic and dramatic powers was back in Season 2 when he was wheeling and dealing as Joffrey’s hand in King’s Landing. It will be great to see him back in that mode and in a position to have his revenge on Cersei. The Queen of Thorns. One last mention of Dany’s enviable squad. Lady Olenna is, as far as we know, the last living member of House Tyrell. She better be wearing thick, thick plot armor under those mourning clothes because we obviously need her to keep the Sand Snakes on a short leash. So with all due respect to queens Cersei and Daenerys, it’s this queen I’m most invested in keeping around. Sam and Gilly. Presumably Sam and Gilly spent the entire season traveling to Oldtown (hey! Hopefully Gilly will have more to do than just stand around and awkwardly shift that heavy baby on her hip. John Bradley was very charming with his few minutes of screen time in this episode. Arya Stark. Hopefully, Arya’s first order of business after she wipes the Frey arterial blood off her neck and chin, will be to free her uncle Edmure from the dungeons. When she was in her serving- girl guise, Arya was eyeballing Walder pretty hard as he explained to Jaime where he was holding Edmure. But, presumably, Arya won’t linger long at the Twins. She may have killed Walder and his two most prominent sons, but the dude had a LOT of family. And while they may not be too sad to see Walder go, Frey pride might require some kind of retribution. So expect Arya to hit the road quickly. But according to David Benioff, Arya’s vengeance is a “worrisome narrative.” Watching Arya’s smiling face standing over Walder Frey’s dead body, Benioff said, “If you love Arya you have to be worried about where she goes from there.” There are some theories that Arya will take on the role of Lady Stoneheart, a mysterious figure of vengeance in the books. If so, Arya may soon join forces with the Brotherhood Without Banners, Lady Stoneheart’s gang in the novels. That means Arya could soon meet up with the Hound again. Expect her to start crossing even more names off her list. Melisandre. And Melisandre may very well be next on Arya’s list. Remember that Arya has reason to hate her because, back in Season 3, the Red Woman took Gendry away. At one point, Mel, the Hound, Beric, and Thoros were all on her infamous kill list.) But as for Melisandre, as she heads south from Winterfell, she seems destined to collide with the little Stark assassin. Back in Season 3, she told Arya, “I see a darkness in you. And in that darkness, eyes staring back at me. Brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes . We will meet again.” Well that first part—an allusion to Arya’s training as a Faceless Man—came true. So we’ll probably see these two come head- to- head next year. Brienne and Pod. If we’re going to invoke Lady Stoneheart, then we have to talk about Brienne and Pod. This plot may be entirely abandoned but, then again, Brienne, Pod, Melisandre, the Hound, the Brotherhood, and Arya are all kicking around the Riverlands at this point. Hey, just add Jorah and Gendry and you have a party. Given how the widespread plots are quickly becoming condensed (or do I need to remind you of Dany’s squad?), I would be very surprised if all of these characters didn’t join up (with fatal results or not) early on in Season 7. Tormund and Davos. Of course, we all hope Brienne makes it out of the Riverlands alive so she can be re- united with Tormund and his burning, wistful stares. Game of Thrones Season 7 Predictions. Game of Thrones season six has come and gone, and we're stuck waiting a lot longer than before for more. While the most recent season left us with a lot of answers — including the truth about Jon Snow's parents — there are still a helluva lot of questions left to answer. Based on where each character left off in season six, we've got quite a few theories about how the show's seventh seasonal installment will play out. There will be prophecies fulfilled, house alliances broken, and kill lists to complete .
